OS4 and big file

Post by PanzerGeneral »

I wanted to burn a DVD under OS4. I sucked in a 2.3GB zip archive. While unpacking, unarc reported a corrupted archive after a few minutes of opening. I opened the same archive sent via network to my Linux laptop without any problems. Is this a problem with handling large files? ISO after unpacking is 2.9 GB

The DOS in AmigaOS4 should handle such large files, but the question is whether your filesystem supports. What do you have the partition formatted in?

2GB of RAM. There must be more than the file you want?

I do not know what the archive was packed into, maybe there is a bug in XAD, it recently happened by accident with the 7zip files, where the 2GB archive did not want to unpack under UnArc, but directly from p7zip by all means. So try to just unpack it from a console or filemanager configured to work with a specific packer without XAD.

FFS can handle files up to 4GB, although it's an old and slow filesystem, so I wouldn't recommend it. It seems that in AOS 4.1FE it was still in the SFS system itself, now a newer version of SFS is in the Enhancer Software package.

OKAY. I already remembered how it was supposed to be. Small FFS partition from amigaboot.of and SFS system partition.
By the way, I have a question. How big should the swap partition be with 2GB of RAM?

1. In principle, it is not necessary to create a BOOT partition on the Pegu.
2. SWAP: 2xRAM is recommended, that is 4GB for you.
3. Do you have 2GB of RAM in Pegu? Give me your memory dice and your OF version.
4. Give the link to the archive from the first post, I will check it at home.

I am not a Pega specialist, but because it is an unusual machine, in the sense that it does not have a U-BOOT, so it is similar to X1000 in this respect, then such a small partition on FFS (or FAT) should rather be if we want to have system partition in SFS (or possibly NGFS in the future).
It is recommended, but with a small amount of RAM, eg 512MB, while with 2GB of physical memory, SWAP is not needed at all.
i just strartedt to bloon this summer.
