Age of Sail

Post by PanzerGeneral »

Developers from the TalonSoft company, producing the next parts of the Battleground series with incredible regularity, unexpectedly for everyone (probably also for themselves) created a game completely different from the previous ones.

Apparently, the punch broke, because instead of a turn-based strategy dealing with combat on land and with tasty graphics, a real-time strategy was created about a fight at sea and with moderate graphics (another thing was that it was difficult to get great graphics, how could you show the sea?). In Age of Sail, we travel to the years 1775-1820, when wonderful sailing ships sailed on the seas, carrying dozens of equally wonderful cannons on their decks. The topic has been included as standard, which in the case of TalonSoft means solidly. We can choose from over 100 scenarios of various difficulty levels. The novices were also not forgotten and they were served 4 simple missions. If we are going to play the game for a long time, a campaign awaits us, in which we start with a small ship and zero on our account.

After winning battles, we gain money, fame, military ranks and the right to command larger and larger units. Simulating the management of a ship or a group of ships has been extremely simplified. It is limited to taking care of the course, speed (wind force, course and surface of the currently set sails), keeping ships in formation and firing cannons in a timely manner. The following factors affect the accuracy and effectiveness of the fire: speed, crew training and the number of guns. It really looks simple, and it is so, as long as he commands one ship. When you command a dozen or so ships going in a track formation, and an enemy shooting at us swimming right next to you, performing even a few simple activities, such as changing the speed course or finding a ship with the guns loaded on the appropriate side, is not easy. In other words, the game presents an interesting challenge even for experienced players.

My rate: 6/10.
